In the News – Cloud Mgmt & More

In hopes of helping all of you in the Community stay up-to-date on what tech press are providing in terms of news, opinions, and best practices from end-users, this post marks the first in an ongoing series of ‘news round-ups’ we’ll be posting every couple weeks here at Opscode’s blog.

Using the “Three C’s of Chef” (configuration management, cloud management, and continuous delivery) as our lens, for reviewing the news, today’s post focuses on the cloud. To that end:

InfoWorld: “Why PaaS? Dev, test, staging, no waiting” InfoWorld blogger Andrew Oliver makes the case to developers for Platform-as-a-Service.

Computerworld: “Amazon Web Services integrates with Google, Facebook for easier logins” Computerworld proposes that AWS’ new integration w/Google and Facebook allows developers to plug-in to web-based sign-in platforms without having to write any server-side code.

InformationWeek: “Google And VMware: A Contrast In Cloud Architectures” InfoWeek debates the pros and cons of Google Compute Engine and vCloud Hybrid.

DataCenterKnowledge: “The Evolution of the IT Professional – Understanding the Cloud’s Demands” DCK investigates how the cloud has changed the skill requirements for IT admins and engineers – and what folks in these professions need to know to evolve.

We’ll be back in a week or two with more news and analysis of cloud, config, and delivery. In the meantime, happy reading!
